چکیده

Million cubic meters from abandoned mines worldwide could be used as subsurface reservoirs for large scale energy storage systems, such adiabatic compressed air (A-CAES). In this paper, analytical and three-dimensional CFD numerical models have been conducted to analyze the thermodynamic performance of A-CAES in during charging discharging processes. Unlike other research works, which heat transfer coefficient is considered constant operation time, present investigation a correlation based on both unsteady Reynolds Rayleigh numbers employed type application. A tunnel with 35 cm thick concrete lining, 200 m3 useful volume typical operating pressures 5 8 MPa were considered. Fiber-reinforced plastic (FRP) steel sealing layers simulations around fluid. Finally, model also considers 2.5 m sandstone rock mass lining. The results obtained show significant flux between pressurized layer However, no temperature fluctuation was observed mass. fluctuations are reduced when employed. thermal balance through 30 cycles, considering flow rates 0.22 kg s?1 (charge) ?0.45 (discharge), reached 1056 907 kWh FRP steel, respectively. general, good agreements obtained.

Thermal System Analysis and Optimization of Large-Scale Compressed Air Energy Storage (CAES)

As an important solution to issues regarding peak load and renewable energy resources on grids, large-scale compressed air energy storage (CAES) power generation technology has recently become a popular research topic in the area of large-scale industrial energy storage. At present, the combination of high-expansion ratio turbines with advanced gas turbine technology is an important breakthroug...

Modeling and control of an open accumulator Compressed Air Energy Storage (CAES) system for wind turbines

This paper presents the modeling and control for a novel Compressed Air Energy Storage (CAES) system for wind turbines. The system captures excess power prior to electricity generation so that electrical components can be downsized for demand instead of supply. Energy is stored in a high pressure dual chamber liquid-compressed air storage vessel. It takes advantage of the power density of hydra...

Controllable and affordable utility-scale electricity from intermittent wind resources and compressed air energy storage (CAES)

World wind energy resources are substantial, and in many areas, such as the US and northern Europe, could in theory supply all of the electricity demand. However, the remote or challenging location (i.e. offshore) and especially the intermittent character of the wind resources present formidable barriers to utilization on the scale required by a modern industrial economy. All of these technical...
